Thought leadership should be anything but boring.

Twilio wanted to stand out at events like The Customer Show in Melbourne in May 2023, so they hired PaperplaneCo to create keynotes for several executives at the company. This is the story about one keynote in particular.

BUILDING OUR TEAM’S KNOWLEDGE

The first order of business when we create a thought leadership keynote is getting to know the speaker’s objectives, as well as understanding the keynote’s target audience and pain points. This process includes an interview with the speaker, who is the subject matter expert. Then, we work with stakeholders to create a concept that both resonates with the speaker and aligns with business objectives.

The process continues with research on the topic, including resources provided by the client and external studies, where we build the main arguments. In this case, we made the case for turning to individualisation early and collecting quality zero- and first-party data before third-party cookies go extinct.

LETTING THE SPEAKER’S PERSONALITY SHINE THROUGH DECK DESIGN

This speaker wanted a keynote that would extend beyond the show, so he could use it time and time again, and make it a part of his personal brand. We were asked to take a fresh and fun approach to this project, with memorable imagery and thought-provoking quotes and data. In terms of style? Think delicious-looking cookies and GIFs, not bullet points!

DRIVING CONVERSATIONS AND CONVERSIONS

By incorporating the speaker’s style and personality into the keynote, we were able to drive conversations after the keynote session. By driving attendees to Twilio’s booth, where cookies (the edible kind, of course!) were conveniently available, the conversation continued. Attendees were also encouraged to download Twilio’s recent CDP report, giving Twilio another lead-capturing touchpoint with prospective customers.

To take the speaker’s presence and the cookies and cream topic even further, our team also created an accompanying blog post based on the keynote’s content and deck imagery.

Jessica Mizerak

Jessica Mizerak — B2B Content Producer

“With every single interaction I have with a new client, a whole new world opens up for me. I love learning, and I love contributing.”

Unlike most people, Jess’ first love was a language – Russian. Her fondness for languages brought her from the United States across the world to Europe, where she indulged in a novel world of language learning.

While living in Hungary, Jess started contemplating the possibility of becoming a writer. Serendipitously, she received a phone call from her friend with a full-time scriptwriting opportunity. After accepting the offer and working as a scriptwriter for two years, Jess experimented in other fields, yet kept writing in her life by freelancing during nights and weekends.

At one point, she worked at Antavo alongside e-commerce and omnichannel retailers that were creating and implementing new loyalty programs, which gave her the unique insight on B2B operations that she has today. After experiencing life across diverse professions, Jess realised that being a writer was her true calling, and returned to writing full-time.

Now as the go-to scriptwriter for webinars and videos at PaperplaneCo, Jess is also involved in the creative development for new series and projects. She loves meeting new clients, and every new project opens up a new world for Jess to explore.

Currently residing in Spain, Jess teaches an aerial hoop class once a week. In the future, Jess hopes to work on projects contributing to sustainability.

Monna Munoz — People and Operations

“Nothing is complicated. Break it down, prioritize, find efficiencies. When everything runs smoothly, there’s space for creativity and productivity.”

It takes courage to think differently, and Mona knows it. At age 5, this Richard Branson fan built a child-sized rocket from grocery cartons and duct tape. At 19, she dropped a promising nursing career to pursue her love of tech at an internet marketing firm—one she would soon come to lead. In 2016, Mona launched her own web development agency. With her “Just do it” mantra, Mona’s approach to work is singularly strategic and systematic.

Now Project Manager at PaperplaneCo, Mona goes out of her way to keep all stakeholders happy, juggling multiple projects and teams with enviable ease. Mom to a teenager and two snuggly cats, Mona enjoys long walks and keeping up with Elon Musk’s Mars project. Warning: With her unflaggingly upbeat attitude and ace organizational skills, Mona’s productive vibe can be contagious.

Chrissy Lim

Chrissy Lim — Creative Director

“I live for the flow. Time stands still and every stroke, every pixel nudge is inspired by a supernatural genius.”

In a world riddled with complexity, Chrissy Lim has the background and imagination to make sense of it all, traversing the realms of technology, business, and creativity. In a world of flux, she connects the dots. She has steered two of her start-ups into multi-million dollar successes, and directed the global ad accounts for brands like Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola and Mercedes-Benz.

Chrissy founded Paperplane to bring together the promise of creativity and technology to celebrate stories in an age of new media. The interplay of disciplines is where Chrissy thrives, and where the classic paper plane gains its charm: a humble sheet of paper transformed through engineering and imagination. Photographer, scuba diver, inveterate foodie, Chrissy carries it all off with child-like enthusiasm.
